A History of Gardens and Growing in Charlton
On Saturday 18th February at 2:30 pm in the Grand Salon in Charlton House, Barbara , Caroline and Judy will be giving a talk for the Charlton Society.
The details are:-
Outline: the talk will look at how the land in Charlton and the surrounding area has been used over time for growing food .
They will cover:
- what was happening in the 18th and 19th centuries in farming and market gardening
- the estates and gardens of the ‘Big Houses’ such as East Combe and Bramhope Lodge
- allotments and how they developed from the 19th century, looking particularly at their expansion during WW1 and WW2
- the importance of community growing spaces today and for the future

Purple For Polio
To mark the blooming of the crocus (we hope!!!), we are holding an informal get together at The Fairfield Practice
this will no longer be from 9:30 – 10:30 on Saturday 25th February.
A new date is to be set in March when we are more likely to have some purple crocus to see
If possible, please wear or bring something purple.
Early notice of our Plant Sale
Our main, annual plant sale, where we raise funds for the garden, will be held on 18th May 2017 details will follow closer to the date, but we welcome any plants you may have spare, so a reminder now in case you want to plant a few extras or take some cuttings for us.
