Happy New Year 2018 and here is to another productive and successful gardening year

It is cold, dark and wet out there…… but at least we don’t have to worry about watering.  However we do need to look ahead. The days are slowly getting longer and the bulbs are coming through.

All our regular volunteers and the committee members are meeting up for a social gathering in the dry, and without need for stout shoes and gardening gloves.  This is at Cattleya in February.  Jane has been in contact by email to find out numbers so that she can book.

You will need your gardening kit for the first Station gardening party of the year.  This will be on Sunday 4th February, between 2 and 4 p.m.  We have changed back to afternoon sessions as a number of people said that this was their preferred time.

Dates of all subsequent gardening parties this year can be found in the Diary Dates page.   Usually it is the first Sunday of the month, other than when it is a bank holiday week end.

The orchard continues to develop and is being actively supported by pupils at Charlton Park School who have been helping us with the watering – though they have been relieved of duties recently.  New young trees need regular watering, they dry out very easily and need a lot of water until their roots develop.

We will be planting a second orchard on Saturday March 24th. This will be at a location close to the Children’s Playground.

And finally, lots of advance notice for our Plant Sale at Charlton Station on May 17th.  Volunteers are sowing seeds and cuttings to be ready for the sale.  All contributions will be gratefully received.

And here is a photo to remind us that spring is just around the corner
