What we do
Our aim is to turn unloved and unused spaces in Charlton into productive community use. The garden at Charlton Station is our first garden and was started in April 2013. It is being developed as an organic, demonstration garden to show that food can be grown in small spaces as well as provide habitats for wildlife .
Engaging the local community is key to achieving our aim. To do this, we have held Open Meetings on a regular basis to raise awareness and support. We also attend local fairs hold plant sales and run Family Learning Events to extend involvement to families and their children.
We want to share our gardening skills and knowledge with others, so that more people can learn to grow their own food as sustainably as possible. We will develop this area of work to promote the benefits of organic, locally grown, seasonal produce and share recipes based on what we grow in the garden.
We are actively looking for other sites in the area for community gardening so that more people can grow their own food.
We also want to share our experiences with other aspiring community gardeners so that others can benefit from what we’ve learnt.
