What we have been up to lately……… Family Learning Event, Plant Sale, London in Bloom, Call for waterers.

Volunteer waterers are again needed for both the station and the orchards.  If you can give an hour or so a week or a fortnight to do watering for us, please contact us by email at charltoncommunitygardens@gmail.org.

London in Bloom

We have again entered this annual event, and submitted our entries for Charlton Station and the orchards at Charlton Park.  We have always done well before, and here is hoping that the judges continue to find what we are doing worthy of high level awards. A judge is visiting on Tuesday next……..

Plant Sale.

Because of Covid, we once again sold plants raised by our volunteers,  from  volunteers front gardens. It was chilly, damp rainy day when we had the first plant sale at 5.30 p.m. on May 20th, and slightly better weather on 27th May.  Thank you everyone who ventured out and bought plants from us.  Thank you also to those who donated via our Justgiving page.  We made nearly £615.  This will certainly keep us going by helping finance our community events such as Family Learning Events as well as  our sites in Charlton Park and at Charlton Station, where we have to replace some fruit trees, plant up more fruit bushes, and replace  deteriorating raised beds.  This as well as buy plants, seeds, compost etc.  Again, thank you everyone who supported us.

Family Learning Event

There was a second successful “take away” Family Learning Event held after Easter on 15th April. Families pre-booked an activity bag and 36 bags we given out at the handing out spot in Charlton Park. The bags contained a range of activities – pebble decorating, pea sowing in plastic milk bottles, making a box out of card and several age-appropriate word-searches/quizzes. We asked for photos of results, and here are some pea shoots

And look out for….. Charlton Station garden improvements. More detail to follow when we have finalised details of a likely grant.
